Straks ganse staten van de VS en daarna het land zelf (of is het omgekeerd ?!).  Dit is wat Robert Prechter van Elliott Wave International erover te zeggen heeft – een voorspelling wordt bewaarheid…

The small southern California city of Maywood has hit on a unique solution to its budget crisis. Crushed by the recession and falling tax revenues, the city is disbanding its police force and firing all public sector employees.” (Financial Times, June 28)

Maywood is niet het enige stadje in Californië met geldproblemen.  Oakland heeft 80 politieagenten moeten ontslagen. Vallejo, een ander stadje met 120,000 inwoners, moest 17 agenten laten gaan en 41 officieren.  Vallejo’s agenten verdienen gemiddeld $122,000 per jaar; de stad ging bankroet in 2008.

In zijn bestseller Conquer the Crash, waarvan een nieuwe, herziene versie op de markt werd gebracht zonet, waarschuwde Bob Prechter de lezers niet verrast te moeten zijn bij cutbacks van basic services. This quote is from the newly released 2nd edition:
 
“Don’t expect government services to remain at their current levels. The ocean of money required to run the union-bloated, administration-stultified public school systems will be unavailable in a depression. . .The tax receipts that pay for roads, police and jails, fire departments, trash pickup, emergency (911) monitoring, water systems and so on will fall to such low levels that services will be restricted.” (p. 257)
 
Bob published these words well before local governments found themselves in today’s sad state of financial affairs. Prechter’s prediction is now a reality.
 
How about your city or town? Don’t be surprised if your local paper starts reporting on services cuts — if such announcements haven’t occurred already.
